July – Sports Day

The sun shone to make it a beautiful day of sport for the annual sports day. Class 4 (supported by the SSOC – school sports organising crew) did a great job in organising and running morning sporting activities during the morning. The afternoon consisted of the traditional sports day races, and this year it was the red team who emerged victorious. Congratulations to everyone who took part and for the red team for being the overall winners. Here are the red team captains being presented with the sports day shield by school governor Mr Wilson.

July – Y5/6 Regional Cricket Final

After becoming North Yorkshire cricket champions, the Y5/6 team took part in the prestigious regional final. The team performed extremely well in a competition where the standard of play was very high. The team were eliminated at the quarter finals after winning all three of their group games. Well done to the whole team for a very successful season.

July – Y5/6 Boys’ Football – Catenian Cup

The boys’ football team took part in the Leeds Diocese Catenian Cup for the first time. After qualifying for the C league, the team won all four matches during the afternoon to win the C league trophy. Midfielder Kiam Browne was also named as player of the league. Well done to Kiam and the whole team.

July – Y5/6 St John Fisher Mixed Football Tournament

Barkston Ash took two teams to the annual St John Fisher mixed football tournament. Both teams played fantastic football and really enjoyed their day playing on the 3G surface at St John Fisher. The A team retained their trophy from last year by winning the A team league. The B team showed that the school has great strength in depth by finishing runners up on goal difference in the B league. Well done to both teams for performing so well and representing the school with such distinction.


June – Y5/6 North Yorkshire Cricket Final

Our Year 5/6 cricket team played in the North Yorkshire schools final yesterday. After winning their first two games in their group, they recovered from a difficult start to win their third game too. The next game was against another team who had also won all three of their previous games; the winner of this match would go through to the final. Matthew Hutton got the team off to a great start by taking a hat-trick with the first three balls of the innings. A fourth win in four matches took the team into the final. In the final, the children managed to concede very few runs and won the match comfortably to become North Yorkshire champions! Congratulations to the whole team for an amazing performance and achievement.


June – KS1 Multi-Skills

A team of KS1 children took part in a multi-skills event at Kellington Primary school. The children had a great afternoon taking part in a range of different sporting events. Well done to everyone who took part.

June – Y3/4 Boys’ Football

The Y3/4 boys’ football team showed lots of promise when they took part in the i2i cup competition at Brayton Primary School. The team defended well and created a number of chances which they unfortunately struggled to convert. The team finished in 7th place overall and showed lots of potential. Well done to the whole team.

June – KS2 Summer Sport Festival

A team of children from KS2 took part in the summer school sport festival at Kellington Primary school. The team enjoyed taking part in a number of different sporting activities and enjoyed developing their skills and techniques. Well done to the whole team.

June – KS2 Dodgeball

Our KS2 dodgeball team had a fantastic time at Sherburn High taking part in the cluster dodgeball tournament. The team showed great sportsmanship and teamwork throughout the competition and played with a real smile on their face throughout. Well done to all the children who represented the school so well.

June – Y5/6 Girls’ Cricket

Our Y5/6 girls’ cricket team enjoyed a brilliant day of cricket at Knaresbrough Cricket Club. A number of girls were playing in their first ever cricket match and it was wonderful to see them develop their skills as the day progressed. The girls played 6 matches, winning 4 of them and finishing in 4th place overall. Well done, girls!


June – Y3/4 Basketball

A new competition and a new competitive sport for Barkston Ash as children from Y3 and 4 took part in a basketball tournament at Brayton Primary school. The team persevered against some very challenging opponents and ended the competition on a high with a 4-0 victory in their final match. Overall, the team finished in 5th place. Well done to everyone who took part.

June – Y3/4 Summer Smash Cricket

It was the turn of our Y3/4 cricket team to be in action as they took part in the Summer Smash cricket competition at Thorpe Willoughby cricket club. The team competed very well, winning 3 of their 5 matches and finishing in 4th place. Well done to everyone who took part and represented the school so well.

June – Y5/6 Selby District Cricket Competition

Following on from their success in the Sherburn Cluster competition, the Y5/6 cricket team are celebrating again after being crowned Selby District champions! The team comfortably won all four of their matches and have now qualified for the North Yorkshire final as the Selby District representatives.

May – Y5/6 Sherburn Cricket Competition

Congratulations to our Y5/6 cricket team who retained the Sherburn cluster cricket trophy on a beautiful day at Church Fenton Cricket Club. The team performed extremely well, winning all four of their matches and qualifying for the Selby District Final! Well done to the whole team!

May – Y5/6 Boys’ Football i2i Trophy

Barkston Ash continued their successful football season by winning the i2i trophy. Barkston were drawn in group A and started with a comfortable 2-0 victory over Brayton blues after goals from James and Kiam. They followed this with a 4-0 win over Brotherton with goals from Kiam, Ollie and two from Callum. Their final group match was against Staynor Hall and resulted in a 3-0 victory to secure 1st place in the group – goals this time from Callum, Kiam and Finn.

The final saw Barkston play against group B winners Riccall. It was a tight opening but once Kiam gave Barkston the lead, it was one way traffic. Kiam produced an outstanding performance to score a hat-trick and confirm a 3-0 win. Well done to the whole team on a fantastic performance. Everyone contributed positively to another successful tournament.


May - Y5/6 Girls’ Football Selby District Championships

After becoming two-time Sherburn Cluster champions, the girls’ football team took on the challenge of the Selby District championships, taking on the very best teams in the district. The girls competed very well with 1 win, 1 draw and 2 defeats from their 4 matches. Overall, the team finished as the 5th best team in the district – a fantastic achievement for the girls’ team. Well done to everyone who took part.

May – Y3/4 Tri-Golf Competition

A group of children in Y3/4 enjoyed taking part in a tri-golf festival at Kellington Primary School. The children really enjoyed the opportunity to take part in a number of different putting and chipping activities and games. The team finished in 5th place overall and thoroughly enoyed the afternoon. Well done to all of them.
April – Y5/6 Swimming–Tadcaster Swimming Pool Champions!

Well done to our Y5/6 swimming team who won the Tadcaster pool swimming competition. Competing in a range of different individual and relay races, the team showed fantastic swimming ability to finish the competition in first place and win the giant trophy! Congratulations to the fantastic swimming team.

April – Y5/6 Selby Champions’ League Winners!

Barkston Ash boys’ football team have made history by winning the Selby Champions’ League trophy for the first time! After winning the Western Selby league, they took part in the Champions’ League tournament at Barlby High school against the other two regional winners Riccall and Hambleton. Barkston Ash were up first against Riccall and played superbly to win 5-1. Two goals from James and further strikes from Callum, Kiam and Finn gave Barkston Ash a comfortable victory. With Hambleton then beating Riccall, it came down to a final game between Hambleton and Barkston Ash with the winning team to be crowned Champions’ league winners. A well taken penalty from Callum set Barkston on their way to an outstanding team performance. Further goals from Kiam (3) and James (2) ensured a resounding 7-2 scoreline. Well done to everyone who has represented the Y5/6 team this year – a fantastic achievement.


April – Y5/6 Netball – Selby District Champions!

Our High 5 Netball team represented the Sherburn Cluster in the Selby District championship at Selby High school. The team performed superbly in very hot conditions. Barkston Ash won their first game against Hambleton 3-0 with goals from James (2) and Chloe. In the second match they defeated Heminbrough 3-0 with goals from James (2) and Lucy. The penultimate match resulted in a 5-0 victory over Tadcaster Riverside – Lucy, James (2), Connor and Chloe the scorers. The final match was a 4-2 defeat against Brotherton with Kiam and Connor the scorers. Overall, the team finished as winners and will now represent Selby District in the North Yorkshire games. Well done to the whole team.

March – Y5/6 Boys’ Football Hungate – 7-1

The Y5/6 boys’ football team produced arguably their best all round performance of the season as they defeated Sherburn Hungate on a roasting hot day. Each player contributed to the victory. The goals were scored by James (3), Kiam (2) and a goal each by Callum and Ollie.

March – KS2 Netball - winners

Our High 5 netball team performed very well in the Sherburn Cluster netball competition. They won all their matches to qualify for the Selby District final later in the year. Well done to the whole team.

March – North Yorkshire KS2 Cross Country
Congratulations to five of our pupils: Emma Hutton, Jasper Groot, Isabel Neale, Lauren Lilley and Eloise Eastman who took place in the county cross country championships at Dalby Forest. The children ran extremely well to complete the challenging course. Well done!

March – Y5/6 Boys’ Football
Barkston Ash 10 – 6 St Joseph’s Tadcaster

The Year 5/6 boys’ football team continued their successful league campaign with a 10-6 victory in a very entertaining match at St Joseph’s, Tadcaster. 5 goals from James, a hat-trick from Callum and two goals from Kiam ensured that Barkston Ash finished the game as deserved winners. Well done to the whole team for a good performance.

March – Y5/6 Basketball
Our KS2 basketball team had a great time taking part in a range of games and activities at Sherburn High. The team showed great sportsmanship and behaviour and finished in 3rd place overall. Well done to everyone who took part.

February – Y5/6 Boys’ Football
Barkston Ash 5 – 1 Tadcaster Riverside

James (2), OG, Kiam (2)
Barkston Ash Boys’ team went into their final league of the season knowing that they needed to beat Riverside by two clear goals to overtake them at the top of the table. The team responded with an excellent team performance. The Riverside goalkeeper was in fine form but resistance was finally broken thanks to two goals each from James and Kiam and an own goal. Well done to the whole team.
February – Y5/6 Girls’ Football –
Sherburn Cluster Champions!


Barkston Ash Girls’ football team are Cluster Champions for the second year in a row! Such is the interest in girls’ football at Barkston Ash that we were able to take two teams to the Sherburn Cluster Girls' football tournament at South Milford Primary school. Our B team included many girls playing their first ever matches. The B team were competitive in each of their fixtures and finished in 6th place. Our A team won each of their three group games 2-0 to qualify for the final against Kellington. The girls showed great determination to win and two well taken goals by Lucy ensured Barkston Ash finished as winners! Well done to both teams for representing the school so well.

February – KS1 Dodgeball

The KS1 dodgeball team had a fantastic time at the Dodgeball Fun Festival at Sherburn High School. The team played in a number of different dodgeball matches against other schools in the cluster. The children were very well behaved and were delighted to finish the competition as winners!

February – Y5/6 Mega Rugby Fest

We took two teams of children to the Y5/6 Mega Rugby Fest at Sherburn High. The children enjoyed taking part in a range of different rugby activities that helped to developed their skills and understanding.

January – Y5/6 Girls’ Football North Yorkshire Final

Congratulations to our girls’ football team who played in the North Yorkshire finals yesterday at York High School, representing Selby District. The girls played 4 matches against the other district winners in North Yorkshire. The standard of play was very high and the girls all played very well to finish as runners up – a great achievement.

January – KS1 Sportshall Athletics

Well done to our KS1 Athletics team who took part in the sportshall cluster festival at Sherburn High School. The children performed with great enthusiasm and athletic ability as they took part in a variety of relay and field events. After winning each of the 9 events, the children finished in 1st place! Well done to the whole team!

December – Y5/6 Girls’ Football Selby District
Semi-Final – Riccall 0 – 4 Barkston Ash


The girls’ football team showed their continued improvements with an outstanding performance in the semi-final of the Selby District Cup, winning 4-0! It was an excellent display from the whole team but a special mention to captain Chloe Burke who scored all 4 goals.


December – Y5/6 Boys’ Football Selby District Final
Barkston Ash 3 – 4 Hambleton


It was a very close match in the final of the Small Schools’ Cup. In a topsy-turvy game, the boys eventually lost 4-3. Good luck to Hambleton as they represent the district in the North Yorkshire final.

December – KS2 Cross Country Final

18 of our KS2 Cross Country runners took part in the District Final at Tadcaster Grammar on Monday. Well done to everyone who took part. Four of our pupils have now reached the national finals which will take place in March next year at Dalby Forest. Special congratulations to: Emma Hutton, Isabel Neale, Lauren Lilley and Eloise Eastman

The Y5/6 boys’ and girls’ football teams both drew St Mary’s in the next round of their respective Selby cup competitions so took part in their games on the same day. The girls’ team were up first and put in a tremendous effort to fight back from 2-1 down to win 4-3! The boys were clearly inspired as they took to the field in determined fashion to convincingly win 9-1. Well done to both teams for fantastic performances.

November – KS2 Cross Country

Our KS2 Cross Country team took part in the Sherburn Cluster competition at Sherburn High school. In very cold conditions, all 34 children completed the very challenging course. Well done to everyone who took part! 20 of our runners have now qualified for the District Final at Tadcaster Grammar next month. November – KS1 Cross Country Competition

29 children in Years 1 and 2 took part in the Sherburn Cluster KS1 competition at South Milford Primary school. Congratulations to all the children for not giving up and completing the course. A special mention to the following children who achieved top three finishes:

November – Y5/6 Sportshall Athletics

The annual sportshall athletics event is always a very popular one and the children performed extremely well in the range of relay and field events. The team narrowly missed out on first place by just three points – well done to the whole team.
 

October – Y3/4 QuickSticks Hockey

Our Y3/4 Hockey team had a great time at the Sherburn Cluster competition at Sherburn High. They took part in a number of matches against other schools and really enjoyed the opportunity to play. Overall, the team finished in 5th place. Well done to everyone who took part.

October – Y5/6 Boys’ Football League
Barkston Ash 5 – 0 St Joseph’s, Tadcaster

Barkston Ash got back to winning ways with a comfortable 5-0 victory over St Joseph’s, Tadcaster. Barkston created numerous chances and a hat-trick from James, an own goal and a goal for Callum gave them the victory. There were also notable displays from Robert and man of the match Matthew. Well done to the whole team: Matthew, Finley, Connor, Ollie, Bradley, James, Finn, Callum and Robert.

October – Y5/6 Boys’ Football League
Barkston Ash 1 – 2 Tadcaster Riverside


The boys’ team’s unbeaten run ended with a narrow defeat against Riverside. Barkston took the lead when excellent wing play from James set up a tap in from Callum. A deflected shot wrongfooted Finley in the Barkston goal though to make the score 1-1 at half time. Barkston had numerous chances to take the lead in the second half but a combination of good goalkeeping and off target shooting enabled Riverside to claim the win with a well taken finish. Player of the match was James.

October - Barkston Ash Girls’ Team v Sherburn Hungate Girls’ Team

The Barkston Ash girls’ football team began their season with a thrilling game against Sherburn Hungate. There was lots of fantastic skill on show with all the girls playing very well. Sherburn Hungate started the game brightly and took the lead after a good close range finish. After the initial setback, the girls came together as a team and Barkston hit back strongly, equalising after an excellent through ball from Polly put Lucy clear of the defence - Lucy finished well with her right foot into the bottom left hand corner!

In the second half Barkston had the better of the game and Elenia's excellent run and great pass through was well finished by Lucy with her left foot into the top left hand corner. What a goal!

Near misses followed from Chloe and Lucy but unfortunately Barkston could not extend their lead! Sherburn Hungate came back on the attack and the Barkston defence had to be at their best. Great tackling from player of the match Tilly and a good save from Eloise enabled Barkston to defend their lead and finish the game as 2-1 winners.

Well done to the whole team: Eloise, Emma, Tilly, Rosa, Elenia, Chloe, Polly, Sophia, Lucy and Lilian.

Barkston Ash v Sherburn Hungate


The new look Barkston Ash football team began their league defence with a trip to Sherburn Hungate. It was an exciting match from the start with Barkston holding all the possession and creating lots of chances. Lots of exceptional ball control and passing was on show; it was a thrilling match to watch. Barkston worked hard and had lots of fantastic opportunities to score, and score they did with some jaw dropping goals! James scored five fantastic goals, followed by Callum and Kiam with a hat trick each! The final score was 11-0, with Barkston being worthy winners! What a great result to start the season in style. Well done to the whole team: James, Kiam, Callum, Connor, Finn, Thomas, Oliver, Bradley, Fergus and Finlay.

September – Y5/6 Sherburn Cluster Boys’ Football Tournament

Our boys’ football season began with a tournament at Sherburn High School. We took two Y5/6 boys’ football team’s to the tournament, Barkston Ash A team and Barkston Ash B team. The Barkston A team were competitive throughout and comfortably won all of their four matches, to make it to the final. The Barkston B team also played exceptionally well winning their four matches too and earning a place in the final! Both teams did not concede a single goal in the group games and so it was to be a tense final - Barkston A v Barkston B!

The final was a thrilling game with lots of skill, exquisite passing, thrilling runs and shots on show. The Final result was 3-0 to the Barkston Ash A team who became Sherburn Cluster champions. The B team deserve great credit too for finishing as runners up. There was certainly plenty of promise and potential for the season ahead. Well done to all the players: James, Kiam, Callum, Oli, Finlay, Connor , Fergus, Sam, Bradley, Finn, Thomas, Max, Oscar, Matthew and Rhys.



September - KS1 Beanbag rounders tournament

Our KS1 Beanbag Rounders’ team had a wonderful time at the Sherburn Cluster competition. The children showed amazing enthusiasm, team work and rounders skills to end the competition as Beanbag Rounders runners up! Well done to the whole team for an excellent performance and good sportsmanship throughout the competition: Eli, Isla, Jessie, Blythe, Jake, Ralph, Oliver, Ruben, Jacob and Ethan

September – Key Stage 1 Multi-Skills Event

Children in Year 3 had a wonderful time at Kellington Primary School as they took part in a range of different sporting activities and games. It was fantastic to see the children taking part with such enthusiasm, while developing a range of skills. Well done to the whole team: Lennon, Holly, Amelie, Caoimhe, Isabel N, Emma, Oliver, Isaac, Joseph, Tom and Lucas.
