Headteacher's welcome
On behalf of the Governors, staff, pupils and myself, I would like to warmly welcome you to Barkston Ash Catholic Primary School.
We have served our children, village and the wider community since 1856 and believe it is our Catholic identity and ethos which sets us apart – ‘With God’s guidance we grow and learn’.
Barkston Ash welcomes children and families from all backgrounds. We are passionate about supporting our wider community and we are fully committed to providing the best possible education for all of our children, where their unique talents are explored and nurtured.
At Barkston Ash, our children are wonderful. They enjoy learning through a curriculum which is carefully designed to ensure that spiritual, academic and curricular development and achievement are highly valued. Through our engaging curriculum, we ensure that children can develop self-belief, confidence and a passion for learning that will help to develop high aspirations and offer experiences that will provide lifelong memories for our children to cherish.
We are a dedicated staff team who work hard to reach high standards in everything we do and this is further embedded through our successful partnerships with families, the local community, the Diocese and other schools. High expectations permeate throughout our school and we pride ourselves on being outward facing. Our staff team provide well-planned, inspiring lessons and activities. A wide range of curriculum enrichment activities are also provided to further enhance our children’s learning.
As a Catholic community, we endeavour to celebrate the successes of our children in all areas of school life. We work hard to ensure that we are a central part of the Catholic community of St Joseph The Worker parish. There is a strong emphasis on the Catholic faith at Barkston Ash and our children are taught to live by the virtues.
Underpinning our curriculum is a commitment to ensure that the children of Barkston Ash Catholic Primary School possess the values that enable them to live well in society and prepare them to deal effectively with the modern world, appreciating the endless opportunities that await them.
Our unique ‘Barkston Ash DNA’ ensures that children leave our school:
- Respectful to all
- Spiritually strong

- Intellectually inspired
I am immensely proud of our entire school; if you visit us here at Barkston Ash, you can be assured of a warm welcome from our amazing team of hard working, respectful and friendly children and our dedicated, valued and highly-skilled staff.
